Step-by-Step Guide for Preparing for a Yoga Nidra Meditation Session

by Rebecca Lane
By now, it's probably clear just how much I wholeheartedly believe in the power of Yoga Nidra. And if you haven't experienced this incredible meditation technique yet, let me be the one to share with you: it's an absolute must-have in your life. Personally, it has brought about transformative changes in my own journey, and I can't help but wish the same profound benefits for you. So, let's dive into the wonders of Yoga Nidra together and explore how it can positively impact your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.  Let's start at the beginning. Yoga Nidra, also called "yogic sleep," is  all about experiencing deep relaxation while staying fully aware. You simply lie down in a cozy spot and let yourself be guided through a blissful journey of relaxation and self-awareness. What's incredible is that this practice has its roots in ancient yogic traditions, but it's gaining popularity these days because of its scientifically-proven benefits. It's said to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which means reduced stress, better sleep, sharper focus, and an all-around sense of well-being. The practice is incredibly simple. Just lie down, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. I'll be there to guide you into a deep state of relaxation, giving your mind and body the chance to rest and rejuvenate. Let me walk you through the steps to prepare for a deeply restorative session.   Select a Quiet Space: Find a peaceful and quiet place where you won't be disturbed during the session. Create an ambiance that promotes tranquility by dimming the lights and removing any distractions. Comfortable Posture: Lie down on your back with a yoga mat or a comfortable surface. Use cushions or bolsters to support your head, neck, and knees, ensuring that you feel relaxed and at ease. Set an Intention: Reflect on your intention for the Yoga Nidra session. It could be stress relief, self-awareness, or any other specific goal you wish to achieve. Keeping this intention in mind will help guide the meditation. Breath Awareness: Focus on your breath and practice a few minutes of deep, slow breathing. Inhale and exhale deeply, allowing your breath to become smooth and steady. Prepare Props (Optional): If you feel you might get cold during the session, consider having a blanket nearby to cover yourself. Having additional props can add to your comfort and relaxation. Silence Electronic Devices: Turn off or silence your phone and other electronic devices to avoid interruptions. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the Yoga Nidra experience. Choose a Guided Meditation: Select a guided Yoga Nidra meditation that suits your needs and preferences. There are various recordings and apps available to guide you through the process. Time Consideration: Allocate enough time for the practice. A typical Yoga Nidra session may last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the chosen meditation. Practice Regularly: To experience the full benefits of Yoga Nidra, practice regularly. Consistency is key, so try to incorporate this meditation into your daily or weekly routine. Remember, the essence of Yoga Nidra lies in surrendering to the practice with an open mind and heart. By following these steps, you'll be well-prepared for a deeply rejuvenating and transformative meditation experience.

Why I Love Paint By Number Kits

by Rebecca Lane
I have a deep love for paint by number kits. It's not just about the ones I personally create; I genuinely admire the entire concept. The ability to switch off my mind and follow the guidance of numbers while still tapping into my creativity brings me so much joy. Sometimes I revel in the absence of decision-making. As an artist, I am often questioned about my seemingly odd love for paint by number kits. Some assume they’re beneath my artistic capabilities or designed exclusively for the uncreative. Not so. That couldn't be further from the truth. I want to share why I adore PBN kits and explain why they are an ideal creative and meditative outlet, even for the most novice creative folks. And why anyone can embark on a healing journey using Meditative Art paint by number kits.   Guided Flow: These kits offer a structured yet forgiving space, where I can freely explore my creativity, make mistakes, and tap into my artistic self. With clear outlines and numbered sections, I can immerse myself in the process without the pressure of starting from scratch, allowing my creativity to effortlessly unfold. The whole process feels gentle and supportive.   Tranquil Escape: For me, engaging in creative activities is a refuge, a peaceful escape from the chaos of daily life. By picking up a paintbrush and delving into a paint by number kit, I can enter a serene space, leaving behind my stress and worries, and entering a state of calm and tranquility.   Safe Space for Beginners: Paint by number kits offer a safe space for beginners to embark on their creative journey. With structured guidance and a gentle flow, these kits nurture self-compassion and courage, allowing folks to explore and express their unique artistic voice.   Emotional Exploration: Paint by number kits provide a pathway to tap into and express emotions. Through creative activities like paint by numbers, we can delve into our inner world, allowing emotions to surface and be processed. Creative practices act as a channel for self-reflection and emotional exploration, fostering healing and personal growth. Paint by number kits offer a beautiful refuge for those yearning to tap into their creative essence. With structured guidance and a tranquil flow, these kits create a safe space for self-expression and skill development, inviting people of all levels to embrace their often ignored creative side and experience the transformative power of creative healing. This is my current favorite from my Meditative Art collection.  You can find more here.

The Power of Blending Art + Meditation for Mental Wellbeing

by Rebecca Lane
Meditative Art, also known as Therapeutic Art, is a powerful form of therapy that combines creativity and guided meditation to support healing and personal growth. It provides a safe space for us to express ourselves without words, using art as a means of exploration and self-discovery. Meditative Art allows us to empower ourselves. By engaging in the creative process, we gain a unique sense of confidence and self-actualization as we witness our own abilities and unique creations.  Here are 4 reasons why I know, through experience, that meditative art/therapeutic art helps us heal and grow: It’s Empowering: By engaging in the creative process, people gain a sense of confidence and self-actualization as they witness their own abilities and unique creations. This boosts self-esteem and promotes a greater sense of agency and control. It Offers an Emotional Release: Engaging in therapeutic art activities provide an emotional release and promotes well-being. Making art can be cathartic, helping individuals let go of stress and find a sense of calm and happiness. You Don’t Have to Rely on Words Meditative Art is a non verbal expression, meaning it allows you to communicate your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment, without relying on words.  This is huge for people like me who often struggle to find the right words to express myself properly.  Through art-making, you can tap into their subconscious and access emotions that are normally difficult to articulate. This helps grow self-awareness, insight, and reflection and enables you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. It’s A Portal for Self-Discovery and Self-Empowerment When you witness your own ability to create something meaningful and unique, the feeling is quite empowering. It promotes a sense of agency and control, allowing individuals to make choices, experiment, and take risks in a non-judgmental space. Creative art can also serve as a cathartic outlet for difficult emotions, providing a healthy way of processing and releasing pent-up feelings. It can calm anxiety, promote relaxation, and improve your mental well-being.

How to Create Ritual Around Artmaking

by Rebecca Lane
The meditative art-making process is a sacred and transformative journey. It gives us opportunity to pause, connect with our innermost self, and surrender to the flow of creativity.  By infusing ritual into this experience, we can deepen your connection with ourselves, nurture our soul, and realize our creative potential. Let me share four meaningful ways I incorporate ritual into my own creative practice. I create a sacred nest— This is a dedicated space that honors my artistic journey. This little sanctuary is a haven exclusively for me. I clear a space, light a candle or burn fragrant incense, and wrap myself in a cozy blanket while sipping a comforting cup of coffee or tea. Tapping into the senses helps amplify the magic of this space. It makes the space and the art making process more sacred. Through these simple acts, I can really feel the space is created just for me. I do a brief guided meditation and a heartfelt intention-  This practice really tunes me in, enabling me to immerse myself in the artistic process fully. By connecting with my body, heart, and emotions, I create an alignment that I know allows creativity to flourish. I invite in nature-  After the meditation, I transition into the art-making phase, accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature. Whether it be the gentle sounds of a rainforest, moody thunderstorms, or the rhythm of ocean waves, these nature backdrops create a serene and tranquil environment.  On occasions when I seek nostalgia or want to evoke specific memories or emotions, I may indulge in my favorite music, further enhancing the experience. I practice reflective journaling- Journaling provides a safe haven to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences. There are no rules or constraints on how much or how long I write—I simply allow thoughts and emotions to flow freely onto the pages. This act of self-reflection and expression deepens the connection to the creative process and helps with my own personal growth.   I encourage you to create your very own ritual when engaging in art-making. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to craft your ritual. The essence lies in creating a space that is uniquely yours—a soft, nurturing, and loving space where you feel safe to unleash your creative spirit.  Embrace this opportunity to honor yourself and your art, and watch the transformative power of ritual infuse your creative practice with new meaning. If you have trouble getting started with your own creative process, I suggest checking out my Meditative Art Paint by Number Kits. Fully equipped with a paint project, paints, brushes and recorded meditations, you'll be fully ready to start your own Meditative Art journey.

Theraputic Art Meditations

by Muhammad Junaid Iqbal
You might have heard me talk about the power behind art as therapy. After all, I have been an artist in some form or another my entire life. For me, art is a direct connection to my spiritual self. It is a meditation. An invitation to go deep within, where no one else can reach. It’s a movement, a flow, taking me from my head to my heart. Art allows me to express myself in a way that words can’t. It taps into a space within me that’s otherwise unreachable. It is absolutely, undoubtedly a form of meditation. What is a Creative Art Meditation? Creative art meditations are guided meditations blended with a creative, therapeutic art activity.  This is a powerful method to help you tap into self discovery and healing.  Creative Art Meditations give you a place to be messy and imperfect and authentic. A place to connect to yourself, be in the moment, find your flow.   These meditations are designed for everyday people. There’s absolutely no experience needed. These meditations have nothing to do with creating a beautiful piece of art.  It’s all about the process of self discovery.  It’s about using art to pull out feelings and emotions that have been lying dormant under the surface. Creative art meditations allow you to express your feelings and discover your inner strengths and overcome obstacles.  To heal whatever’s inside you that’s holding you back from living the life you want. Experience Creative Art Meditations for Yourself In September I’ll be launching these meditations on my YouTube channel. I encourage you to try one out. You’ll be working in the privacy of your own space, so there is no pressure, no expectations. Just show up with an open mind and an open heart.  I’ll be there in the video to guide and support you through the entire creative process so you can begin to tap into self discovery and healing.  I’ll let you know when the first video becomes available. And I’d love to hear your experience with it.

This unique combination creates a holistic experience that allows you to connect with your emotions and inner self in a profound way. 5 Ways Painting Improves Mental Wellbeing

by Muhammad Junaid Iqbal
Paint by number is a fun and easy way to get started with painting. Starting out with a guided paint project takes the pressure off trying to come up with an original composition and allows you to focus on the process of painting itself. If you struggle with getting started creatively, paint by numbers are a great tool to overcome that obstacle. Painting, in general, has an abundance of mental health benefits. Here are five reasons why painting can be a meditative process and its potential mental wellness benefits: Focus on the present moment: Painting requires the artist to focus their attention on the present moment and the task at hand. This can help alleviate stress and anxiety by reducing the mind's tendency to wander.   Creativity and self-expression: Painting is a form of creative expression that allows the artist to explore their emotions and thoughts. This can lead to a greater sense of self-awareness and personal growth.   Mindfulness: Painting can promote mindfulness, a state of awareness in which individuals focus on the present moment without judgment. This can help individuals to feel more grounded, calm, and centered.   Stress relief: Painting can be a relaxing and enjoyable activity that can help individuals to de-stress and unwind. This can have a positive impact on mental wellness by reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of well-being   Flow state: Painting can induce a flow state, a state of optimal performance and focus where individuals become fully immersed in the activity. This can promote feelings of joy, accomplishment, and satisfaction, which can be beneficial for mental health.   If you’re looking for calming practices, give paint by numbers a try. Our Meditative Art Kits are the perfect combination of guided meditations with creative prompts to help you get in the right mindset and connect with your creativity. I’d suggest starting with this kit. It’s simple, uses calming colors and gives you a beautiful piece of artwork. You can find this kit by following the link below.       Vintage Flowers Kit

Journaling Prompts- The Perfect Addition to Your Meditative Art Experience

by Muhammad Junaid Iqbal
Journaling and therapeutic art are best friends when it comes to self-expression, healing, and personal growth. Journaling provides a safe space for you to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences, while therapeutic art can turn your thoughts into a visual story . By combining these practices, you can deepen your understanding of inner self, you can process those complex, sometimes scary emotions, and cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness.  Here are some journaling prompts for you to use with Breathe People’s Meditative Art Kits. You can choose to journal before painting, during breaks, or after completing the art process.  There is no limit to how much or how long you write in your journal. You should do what feels right for you, and allow your thoughts and feelings to flow freely onto the page. So take your time, and trust in the power of the journaling process to guide you towards greater self-awareness and understanding.  5 Simple journaling prompts: What intention did you hold for your creative process, and how did it manifest throughout your artistic experience? What did you learn/are you learning about yourself during the creative process? Did you discover any new insights or perspectives about your life, relationships, or values? Have you felt any struggle with the painting process? How might that parallel some beliefs/behaviors in your personal life? How did you feel after completing your meditative art practice? Did you experience any sense of accomplishment, peace, or joy? Reflect on why these emotions arose and how they may influence your mood and mindset going forward. What could you do differently in your next meditative art practice to further deepen your connection to your emotions and creative process?

For All Breathe People Artists- A Letter from Founder, Rebecca Lane

by Muhammad Junaid Iqbal
Greetings and a warm welcome to Breathe People’s Meditative Art Paint by Number community! I'm Rebecca, the founder, artist and therapeutic art guide behind BP, and I am thrilled to have you here. If this is your first time trying meditative art, then welcome to a safe haven of creative expression and self-care. This is a place for you to relax and connect with your inner self and creativity. Before you begin, I'd like to share my personal ritual for getting into a creative headspace. First, it's essential to create your own cozy and nurturing space. Grab your favorite blanket, wear comfortable clothes, light a candle, and maybe brew yourself a cup of tea or coffee. Immerse yourself in the creative process with all your senses. Next, choose your meditation. Before starting with the art-making process, it's vital to check in with yourself and understand how you're feeling and what you'd like to get out of the experience. I have created a handful of short meditations to help you with this part, designed to calm your mind and connect with your heart. Please choose one that resonates with you and aligns with your current needs. Additionally, I have included some nature sound recordings that you can find below, which are extremely soothing. My personal favorites are the rainforest and thunderstorm sounds. Calming nature sounds can help alleviate anxiety and keep you connected to the moment in a profound way. During the art-making process, my advice is to not overthink it. Remember, this is all about the process, not the end product. If you feel like departing from the numbers listed and using your own colors, go for it! Paint outside the lines if you like, add your own touch. Although it's good to follow the rules, don't feel obliged to do so here. You cannot get this wrong - I promise you that. Lastly, and most importantly, remember that the intention is not to create a masterpiece. The goal is to quiet your mind and connect with your creative soul. I hope you enjoy this experience, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any guidance or support.

Combine Guided Meditations + Calming Rain Sounds For Deep, Profound Rest

by Rebecca Lane
Have you ever noticed the sense of calm that comes over you when you listen to the rain? It's like the whole world is given a moment to cleanse and reset. Maybe it's just me, but I'd give anything for a good rainstorm. We're ending one of the longest, hottest summers in Phoenix, and my body is aching for a change in season – a real change, with thunderstorms, falling leaves, and crisp mornings. So, what is it about nature sounds, particularly rain, that calms our systems? When we listen to the gentle, rhythmic patter of rain, it connects with our body's natural rhythms like our heartbeat and breathing. This synchronization promotes a deep sense of relaxation. Think of how we connect rain with peaceful environments, like lush forests or cozy indoor spaces, and how it makes us feel safe and comfortable. These soothing auditory experiences trigger the release of stress-relieving hormones like dopamine and serotonin, reducing anxiety and promoting a serene state of mind. It's no wonder that rain sounds are a natural remedy for stress and tension. I've created this Deep Sleep Yoga Nidra guided meditation for those of you who struggle with getting a restorative night's sleep. The gentle, yet profound power of yoga nidra paired with light rain sounds will help to unwind, release, and find deep rest. Enjoy." "
